Each year the congregations of the Sulphur Grove network (Taylorsville, Y, Brandt, and Good Shepherd) gather on the banks of the Miami River at the Taylorsville Metropark to celebrate the sacrament of baptism. Baptism is a celebration of God’s gift of grace and salvation through Jesus Christ. In baptism we publicly profess our loyalty and commitment to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Persons who have never been baptized may receive baptism through immersion (being completely immersed in the river) or by sprinkling (water from the river is sprinkled over the head). Persons who have already been baptized celebrated and remembered their baptism by participating in the experience as well.
The 2013 service took place on August 25 in the Taylorsville Metropark. About 100 people gathered to witness and celebrate the sacrament of baptism in the Great Miami River. Here are some of the pictures.
